Creatine and Teenagers FAQ
FAQ. Hey im 15 years Old..I just joined a gym and got 325 gm of Creatine free..Do you think it is safe to take..or am i better off not bothering with it..also..what would be a good routine for me to take it..thanks..
A. I think you are too young to use creatine. I would recommend waiting a few more years. If you really want to take creatine, use it for a brief period, such as a month or less and no more than 4 grams per day.
FAQ. I am fourteen. In our fitness class we lift weights twice a week ,sometimes three times. Anyway a lot of kids have began to take creatine. I was just wondering if it was alright for a teenager to take it.
A. At this point I do not recommend teenagers use creatine except under medical supervision. If your personal physician approves of the use of creatine, it should only be taken for a brief period of time, such us a couple of months for a particular sports season, and then you should be off it the rest of the year. Daily dosage is best kept under 5 gm, with two days off per week. Long term continuous use may harm the kidneys, liver, or other body organs.
I am uncomfortable with teenagers using creatine since they often do not know their limits. My website gets frequent emails from parents wanting to know whether creatine is safe for their teenage son or daughter. Since creatine is readily available over the counter, it is unlikely that we can prevent teenagers from using it. Therefore, a "Just Say No" policy won't work. What we can do, though, is have a balanced viewpoint. Hopefully, this balanced approach can satisfy the coaches, the teenagers, and the parents.
FAQ. My 18 year old son is an avid bodybuilder and regular consumer of creatine monohydrate. My wife and I have been concerned about his temperament. He constantly seems irritable and has had a short temper ever since he has been using creatine. Is it possible that there is a direct connection between the consumption of creatine and an individual's temperament? This thought crossed our mind when we heard of others who became more irritable and hot-headed after they began using creatine. After they stopped using creatine, their temperament improved to a less irritable state once again.
A. I've heard of creatine possibly causing irritation or short temper on only three occasions, but I keep finding out more new effects from supplements all the time. Let's keep in mind, though, that androgenic steroids.can cause this. It is not oncommon for some individuals to take creatine along with androstenedione or other androgenic hormones. I have no idea whether that is the case with your son. Also, some other supplements sometimes added to creatine, or part of vitamin formulations, can cause irritation including certain amino acids such as tyrosine, or ephedra, or other stimulants. I would be interested in getting responses from other creatine users to let me know if they notice any such effects from creatine.
FAQ. I am a 18 yr old guy and i started taking creatine and it seems to work very well i am about 5' 9 and about 225 lb's i was wondering if it would be bad for me to start taking fat burners and posibly start taking andro i was just wondering what u recomend with this please tell me all you can help me with thank u.
A. I don't recommend fat burners or andro in teenagers. I am coming across more and more teenagers who are overusing supplements and exposing their bodies to potential harm from high dosages. Also, don't use creatine every day, but take frequent breaks from it.
FAQ. I'm 14 and i wanted to start using creatine because i want to be able to dunk by the time basketballl season starts and i wondered if it would help me jump higher.
A. I'm not aware of studies that have evaluated jumping ability in basketball with creatine. Although creatine is likely to increase strength this may be counteracted by the increase in muscle mass and weight.
FAQ. I am a 15 year old, and im about to start football. i know not to take creatine during football season because it pulls water from all over your body, and i will be losing water anyway, the trainer told me that it wasnt the besttime to take and to wait untill after football season, do you recomend that i take it during off-season when i work out everday?
A. I generally don't recommend teenagers take creatine, but if you are planning to anyway, recognize the potential risks and benefits. If you are planning to take creatine during football season, discuss with your parents and coach and have their approval. Limit your dose to 3 grams every other day and take it in the evening when you're done with your workout.
